Stay Cool: The River Electric

With summer settling into the curves of the Russian River, Guerneville, California hums with that familiar anticipation. Every year, travelers from far and wide descend on this little redwood town, ready to unplug and soak up the West County magic. From river floats to coastal drives, the options for a carefree day feel endless, but this year, a new destination is making waves.

Since moving here, Miles and I had been hearing whispers about a dreamy project in the works just outside of Main street: part glampsite, part poolside retreat, part nostalgic nod to summer camp. It felt like a local legend. As the passenger on our drives down Pocket Canyon Road, I became the unofficial progress reporter. There’s a structure up! They’ve planted grass! The pool is full! Every week brought a new update.

Now open, The River Electric delivers on every bit of the excitement it stirred. Designed by architect Will Spurzem of Boundary Works alongside the owners Kelsey and Mike Sheofsky (Shelter Co. Family) and Cello & Maudru, this space blends modern lines with a warm, retro energy. The color-forward design is a feast for the eyes, thoughtfully crafted by Designers Maggie Wilson and Jessie Galloway. Built with sustainability in mind, the resort adapts with the rhythm of nature and offers 40 stylish tents for an immersive, under-the-stars experience.

The moment day passes were released, I snagged ours for opening weekend. Miles and I, ever the vintage enthusiasts with a love for quality design, lined up our best poolside looks and headed out for a proper pool day.

Pulling into the entrance felt like arriving at a secret hideaway. Surrounded by towering redwoods, we were greeted by an open-air reception area filled with curated treasures: River Rat tees, color-coordinated goggles, and locally inspired gifts that make you smile.

The grounds featured two sparkling pools, plenty of sun-drenched lounge chairs, and a full bar serving up some of the best summer cocktails I’ve ever sipped (Kiwi River Crush and Patterson Punch, absolutely divine). We split a refreshingly crisp crudité platter and a turkey club that hit the spot after a swim.

Throughout the day, we watched visitors and locals melt into the ease of the place. It was clear this space wasn’t just built for photos. It was built for people. To relax. To connect. To soak up a slice of Guerneville that feels both fresh and timeless.

Miles captured the vibe on video. Take a peek at our poolside afternoon!

We left sun-kissed and soul-rested, already dreaming of our next visit. If you’re ever looking for a place that’s equal parts chic retreat and Northern California daydream,
The River Electric is it.

Lovingly,

– Michelle
