Afternoons Like These

This summer has been full. From hosting my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary celebration to training for a half marathon and refreshing our backyard, the days have been moving fast.

But lately, Guerneville has given us the kind of weather that invites you to pause. Warm sun during the day, just cool enough in the evenings to light a campfire.

Miles and I finally carved out a quiet afternoon to spend in the yard with our favorite pup, Keaton Holiday. It’s these slow, simple moments that remind me how far we’ve come.

A blanket, some fruit, bread, a little wine, vinyl spinning… and a few macarons that Keaton couldn’t take his eyes off of. The redwood trees stood tall in the distance, steady and still, like quiet witnesses to our little backyard soirée.

We realized we didn’t need much. Just the three of us, birdsong in the background, and that golden kind of stillness that feels like time pressing pause.

That afternoon felt like a little staycation in our tiny river town, and I loved every minute.

Lovingly,

– Michelle
